MySSS Card Replaces UMID: How to Get the New SSS Card
Published on

Quick answer
The MySSS Card replaces UMID as the SSS ID, so in 2026 every new application is for the MySSS Card. Your old UMID card stays valid. You apply online in My.SSS, pass a face scan checked against your National ID, then open an account with an SSS partner bank. SSS charges no fee, and the bank releases the card within 15 working days in Metro Manila or 20 working days elsewhere.
What changed when the MySSS Card replaced UMID?
SSS calls the MySSS Card its new official functional ID. It has an EMV chip, like a bank card. Three things work differently from the UMID card:
- No branch visit for photo and fingerprints. SSS checks who you are through National ID eVerify and a face scan. The card uses your National ID photo.
- It is always a debit card. The card is linked to a savings account with the bank you choose. A UMID card worked as an ATM card only if you upgraded it.
- Benefits go to it on their own. The MySSS Card account becomes your main account for SSS benefits, loans and other payouts. You do not enroll it separately.
Our MySSS Card guide has the full side-by-side table of the two cards.
Is the old UMID card still valid?
Yes. SSS says all SSS cards issued before, including the UMID, are still valid. You do not need to replace a UMID card that still works.
Apply for a MySSS Card only if your UMID is lost or damaged, or if your details have changed. If your card is a UMID ATM pay card with UnionBank, close that account at a UnionBank branch first. Then apply.
Who can apply for the MySSS Card?
SSS members, prior registrants, pensioners, beneficiaries, claimants and representative payees can apply. You need all of these:
- An SS number tagged "permanent". If yours is still temporary, see our SSS number guide.
- A My.SSS account. Our My.SSS help pages cover registration and login problems.
- A current local address, mobile number and email address in your SSS record.
- Registration in the National ID (PhilSys). You do not need the physical National ID card. See our National ID registration guide if you are not registered yet.
- The same name and birth date in your SSS and National ID records. If they differ, fix the wrong record first.
Members abroad with no local address in their SSS record can still apply. They need a partner bank that offers the card to members abroad.
How do you apply for the MySSS Card in My.SSS?
There are two parts. The first part is online and takes about 12 minutes.
- Log in to My.SSS. Open "Services" and click "MySSS Card".
- Check your contact details and click "Proceed".
- Give your consent for National ID eVerify and the use of your National ID photo.
- Click "Start Liveness" and do the face scan until the National ID check succeeds.
- Pick a partner bank from the list and confirm it.
- Tick the boxes and submit. You get a transaction number on screen, by email and in your My.SSS inbox.
The second part happens with the bank. Open your account in the bank's app or at a branch, finish the bank's own checks and pay its card fee, if it has one. SSS issues the card only after this step. The MySSS Card guide lists every screen and the usual errors, such as a failed face scan.
Which banks issue the MySSS Card, and what does it cost?
RCBC was the first partner bank. In March 2026, SSS announced that EastWest Rural Bank had signed on as an issuer, mainly for members in rural areas. That bank says it waives the maintaining balance for MySSS cardholders, and the account earns interest once the balance reaches ₱500. My.SSS shows the banks you can choose on the day you apply.
| Item | Amount or time |
|---|---|
| Application in My.SSS | ₱0, no SSS fee |
| Card fee and account fees | Set by the bank you choose |
| Release in Metro Manila | Within 15 working days after the bank account opens |
| Release outside Metro Manila | Within 20 working days after the bank account opens |
Pay the bank's fee on time. If you do not, the bank cancels the application and you start again in My.SSS. You can hold only one MySSS Card at a time. To switch banks, close the account with the old bank first.
How do you claim an old UMID card you never picked up?
SSS branches send unclaimed UMID cards to the Identity Management Department at the SSS Main Office. It keeps them for 5 years. Wait for the SMS or email that says your card is there.
Then bring your acknowledgment stub or that message, plus one primary ID or two secondary IDs. You sign the logbook and get the card. There is no fee.
If you live outside Metro Manila, ask your nearest SSS branch to have the card sent there for pickup. A representative can claim it with your letter of authority and the IDs of both of you. Find a branch on our SSS offices page, and see all our SSS guides on the SSS page.
Frequently asked questions
Is SSS still issuing UMID cards in 2026?
No. The MySSS Card replaced the UMID card as the SSS ID, so new applications are for the MySSS Card. You apply online in My.SSS and then open an account with a partner bank. UMID cards that SSS already issued are still valid, so you can keep using yours.
Do I have to replace my UMID card with a MySSS Card?
No. SSS says all SSS cards issued before, including the UMID, are still valid. Apply for a MySSS Card only if your UMID is lost or damaged, or if your details changed. If you have a UMID ATM pay card with UnionBank, close that account at a UnionBank branch before you apply.
How much does the MySSS Card cost?
SSS charges nothing for the application in My.SSS. The partner bank you choose may charge a card fee and other account fees, which are listed in its terms. Pay the bank's fee on time, because the bank cancels the application if you do not. You would then have to apply again in My.SSS.
How long does it take to get the MySSS Card?
The bank releases the card within 15 working days in Metro Manila and within 20 working days outside Metro Manila. The count starts when your bank account is opened, not when you finish the steps in My.SSS. The online part in My.SSS takes about 12 minutes.
Can I apply for the MySSS Card if I work abroad?
Yes, if you meet the other requirements: a permanent SS number, a My.SSS account, National ID registration and matching records. If your SSS record has no local address, you qualify only if the partner bank you choose offers the card to members abroad. My.SSS shows the banks you can pick.
